“Urban Development and Restoration” Project Launched for Historical Architectural Heritage in Shusha City
The project "Urban Development and Restoration of Historical Architectural Heritage in the City of Shusha" is an initiative led by students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC). The main objectives of this project were to promote the development of historical cities like Shusha and to preserve and restore their architectural heritage. The project began a year ago.

The project had two main goals:
1. Preservation of Shusha's architectural heritage: This involved gathering historical information about Shusha's monuments and subsequently restoring them.
2. Development projects for urban structure in Shusha, aimed at providing suitable living conditions in accordance with modern requirements.
To achieve these goals, a group of students worked on the development of the city's urban structure, led by the university's associate professor and distinguished architect Ms Yegana Hajiyeva. Other students worked on the restoration of monuments under the guidance of the university's professor and architecture doctor MsSabina Hajiyeva.
During the project, four main outcomes were achieved:
1. Collection of historical information about Shusha's formation.
2. Study of the city's urban structure and development paths, along with the implementation of projects.
3. Individual restoration projects for various architectural monuments, along with the preservation of Shusha's overall architectural-historical heritage.
4. Presentation of the first route to Shusha using modern computer programs.
The project aimed to determine the borders of Shusha's historical protected area until 2040, restore all historical monuments, create green spaces around each monument, designate industrial zones, identify resort and sanatorium areas, restore the historical residential environment, designate areas for eco-tourism routes, allocate areas for public buildings and new constructions, and categorize and separate the city's streets, among other objectives.
