Memorial Day of National Leader Heydar Aliyev Held at AzUAC

An event dedicated to the memory of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC).

Before the event, Rector of AzUAC, Professor Gulchohra Mammadova and the university staff have visited the Alley of Honors to commemorate Heydar Aliyev, the architect and founder of our modern independent state, the National Leader of our people and laid wreath and flowers on his grave. 

They also laid flowers on the grave of the spouse of the Great Leader, outstanding ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and commemorated her memory with respect.

The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played during the event, and there was a minute of silence in honor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. 

In her opening remarks, the Rector of AzUAC, Professor Gulchohra Mammadova spoke about the multifaceted endeavors of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, his exceptional historical contributions to the advancement of Azerbaijan and the fortification of national statehood, and his remarkable rescue mission. She emphasized that the work done by the well-known statesman, the guarantor of the national and moral values of our people, who strived to protect them at all times for the full development of our culture, science and education, has produced tangible outcomes: “The years 1969-1982, which encompass the first years of Heydar Aliyev’s leadership of Azerbaijan, were a time of renaissance of the national development. Azerbaijan passed a dynamic and strong development during that time both in the socio-economic and social-cultural fields. Heydar Aliyev considered education and upbringing as strategic areas, constantly focusing on the issues of education and worked diligently in that area. During that time, the network of secondary general education schools in our country expanded thrice, increasing from 765 to 2117, six new higher education institutions were opened, the number of students receiving higher education increased from 70,000 to 100,000. It was he who initiated the establishment of our university in 1975.”
The Rector drew attention to the fact that Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, is successfully and tenaciously carrying on the comprehensive and visionary policy of the Great Leader to this day. She noted that today the spirit of Heydar Aliyev, who has always been proud of being an Azerbaijani, is happy – the territorial integrity of independent Azerbaijan, which he was the savior, was restored under the leadership of the President, Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, who continued his ideas and actions, and our lands, which have been under the enemy’s occupation for 30 years, have gained its eternal freedom.

Elmira Akhundova, a researcher on the legacy of the national leader, the author of the multi-volumed book “Heydar Aliyev. Personality and Time”, spoke about the rich legacy of statehood while also sharing her pleasant recollections of the Great Leader. She stated that Heydar Aliyev is an indisputable historical figure who played a remarkable role in the establishment and growth of our statehood. Elmira Akhundova, who gave detailed information about the book she wrote about the National Leader, brought some interesting and real facts from the life and activities of the Great Leader to the attention of the event participants.

Speaking about the remarkable life path of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and his unmatched services in the history of our national statehood, including his extraordinary activities for the development of architecture, Professor Elbay Gasimzade, Chairman of the Union of Architects and Head of the Department of Architectural Design and Urban Planning of AzUAC, shared his memories of the Great Leader.

Graduate student of AzUAC Zarif Shiraliyeva spoke about the examples of Heydar Aliyev’s devotion to the Motherland and gratuitous service to the people, who made significant historical contributions to the advancement of Azerbaijan as a whole, made priceless contributions to the preservation of state independence and security and spoke about the genius personality’s support for the youth.

A film about the life and deeds of the Great Leader was screened at the end of the event.
