Members of Parliament Informed the Youth At Meeting Held Within the Framework of the Project on Combating Drug Addiction at AzUAC
A meeting was held with students within the framework of the project “Supporting initiatives to combat drug addiction.” at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC), organized by the “Aktor”Public and Social Research Public Union. The meeting was attended by the members of the Parliament: Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Science and Education Musa Gasimli, member of the Committee on Family, Women, and Children’s Affairs Ramin Mammadov, ChiefAdvisor of the Legal Assurance Department of the State Committee on Family, Women, and Children’s AffairsTural Huseynzade, Member of the Public Council at the Committee Kamala Hashimova, and Editor-in-Chief of the “Tazadlar” (“Contradictions”) newspaper Asif Marzili.
Telman Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the “Aktor”Public and Social Research Public Union, opened the event with a welcoming speech, and spoke about the work done by the union he represents within the project, and highlighted the importance of the role of the fight against drug addiction for ensuring family well-being. He expressed confidence that the issues, proposals to be made, and analyses voiced during the meeting would be beneficial in terms of eliminating and preventing the problem with joint efforts.
Gulchohra Mammadova, the rector of AzMIU, welcomed the guests and students, speaking about the special attention and care shown by the state towards the youth and sports policy, as well as the family institution. She spoke about the end of the 30-year occupation of our victorious Army under the leadership of the President of the country, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyevduring the 44-day Patriotic War, and about the bravery of our heroic sons who sacrificed their lives and blood.
The Rector regrettably mentioned that alongside exemplary youth in our country there are also drug addicts who are a source of danger for both himself/herself and the society with their bad habits, labeling drug addiction as a scourge of the century, and emphasized the necessity for the entire society to be mobilized in the fight against this global menace.
Musa Gasimli, a member of the National Parliament, spoke about the policy and legislative framework implemented by the Azerbaijani state in the fight against drug addiction, noting that the problem is not exclusive to one country but a global issue. He stressed the importance of strengthening informational and educational measuresto combat the consequences of drug addiction, particularly through the effective use of social networks.
Ramin Mammadov, a member of the National Parliament, drew attention to the annual increasing in the statistics of drug addicts and victims of drug addiction, emphasizedthe necessity for students to be active in social networks and fight comprehensively against those who promote drugs. oppose drug promotion on social networks.
Kamala Hashimova, a member of the Public Council under the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children’s Affairs, spoke about the work done by the organization she represents regarding the discussed problem. In addition to the traditional forms and methods of public education, she specifically noted the role of social media in preventing this problem.
Tural Huseynzade, representing the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children’s Affairs, pointed out that the recent increase in the tendency of young people to engage in harmful habits has causes serious concerns in the society. “The solution lies in promoting a healthy lifestyle among young people, adopting a modern approach to the problem, engaging them in beneficial activities during leisure time, and attracting them to mass cultural, educational, and sports events.”
Extensive discussions and exchanges of ideas were held around the topic. At the end of the meeting, booklets, pens, and notebooks related to the project were distributed to the participants.
