AzUAC Student Taking First Career Steps
The Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction is the outstanding university of our country due to the large number of highly specialized professionals it brings to the field of construction. We have hundreds of young graduates who work in this field and proudly represent AzUAC and serve as true examples to their peers.
One of these young individuals is Farid Rovshanov, a young specialist who started his career with the “Graduate Program” at “PMD Projects” LLC and continues his activities successfully.
- First, let's get to know you a bit. Could you provide some information about yourself?
- I am Farid Rovshanov, born in 1998 in Ganja city. I completed my secondary education at Secondary School No. 10 named after M.Hadi. After finishing school, I was admitted to the specialty of Construction Engineering at the Faculty of Construction of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Constructionby the state order. Needless to say, this was not a random or last-minute decision. Everyone knew what profession I would choose from a young age. After completing one year of study, I continued my bachelor’s degree in the “SABAH” groups at our university. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree at AzUAC. Obtaining education in “SABAH” groups holds great importance in shaping my future life and career. I would like to express my gratitude to our university and the leadership of “SABAH” groups for the education they provide to students and the wide range of opportunities they create.
- Does the theoretical knowledge you gained at university help you in your work practice?
- Of course, when the subject is related to construction, theoretical knowledge is very important. Theoretical knowledge allows one to have an idea during construction and to express opinions when necessary. Every moment when my acquired knowledge helps me at work, I understand the value of my teachers even better. Besides having a special interest in technical subjects, my teachers, especially Muxlis Haciyev, Irade Shirinzade, Cahangir Asgerov, Dilqem Mahmudov, Ramiz Aliyev, Alik Najafov, Rovshan Samadov, Sahib Farzaliyev, and all my teachers who have supported and encouraged me to learn, I owe a lot to them and thank them. The role of my teachers is significant in every achievement of mine and will remain unchanged in the future.
- Some students are not enthusiastic to participate in internship programs in production. But observations show that experience is important along with theoretical knowledge. What do you think about the role of experience in future career?
- Students usually make their final decision on their profession, which indicates that students are divided into two groups: those who love their profession and those who regret their choice after making it. Students are busy with intellectual work to a sufficient extent at the university, learning new things, some can imagine what they have learned, and some cannot. Internship in production allows students to better internalize what construction is actually like as they observe it. The theoretical knowledge is learned, but experience teaches how and where to use it. In short, experience is important.
- How did you get a job at “PMD Projects” LLC, a prestigious company?
- “PMD Projects” LLC is one of the leading companies participating in the Career Fair organized at our university every year. Like everyone else, I submitted my CV to company representatives for the “Graduate Program” on that day. As a result, I was invited to the interview with company representatives. I participated in the interviews. At the end of the process, I was among the winners. “PMD Projects” LLC always tries to create opportunities for the youth and support them. Such steps taken for the youth prevent them from wasting their time and help them gain experience and ultimately become real professionals. I thank “PMD Projects” LLC for the opportunities and support provided to our youth.
- Is your current job at the company generally interesting to you?
- In my opinion, the desire of every student who loves his/her specialization is to work in that field in the future and continue gaining success. I am also one of those lucky students. Therefore, working as a construction engineer, closely monitoring the construction process, participating in the preparation, planning, and construction procedures of construction objects with different structures, immersing myself in different construction experiences encountered in every new job or new project is certainly very interesting for me. What makes this work interesting is not only the construction aspect but also the importance of the company’s team. Being in daily contact with experienced construction engineers and specialists at the company, seeing their interest and attention to work, as well as the relationships in the company and the attention given to young people, stimulate my enthusiasm for my work.
- Are you satisfied with your job?
- Of course, I am satisfied.
- Do you have any new goals or plans related to your career?
- Like every construction engineer, I also strive to deepen my expertise in this specialty first. I will continue to develop my knowledge in this direction. Working on large-scale projects in Baku, continuing my success, and participating in the construction of new infrastructures and various purpose projects are among my future goals.
- You are studying for a master’s degree at AzUAC. Could you tell us a little about it?
- Yes, I am currently in my second year of study in the Industrial and Civil Construction specialty at the Faculty of Construction of AzUAC. I had planned to continue the master’s program in my specialty even during my bachelor’s degree study. I consider it a great opportunity to both work and pursue education. These are my early years in the construction field, and therefore, I gain experience from every task I undertake. I also share some of these experiences with my teachers by discussing and exchanging ideas. Thus, the theoretical knowledge gained at the master’s level as well as the opportunity to share my practical experiences, play a great role in my development in this field.
- There will be a need for young constructors like you in the construction and improvement of the liberated territories. Do you have a desire to be part of those construction groups?
- During my bachelor’s studies, we conducted research on our occupied cities and historical monuments. We knew that the enemy destroyed our historical monuments and cities. In the occupied territories, serious reconstruction measures should be taken. For this purpose, we prepared small-scale projects and shared ideas. The project I participated in was related to the city of Lachin. We named our project “Smart Lachin.” Our ideas and thoughts were to rebuild the city of Lachin as a “Smart City.” We aimed to apply the “Internet of Things” in our city. We also aimed to supply the city’s energy with solar panels and wind turbines according to geographical conditions. The projects we prepared as students can now be realized. Today, our compatriots and elder brothers liberated our occupied lands and sacrificed their lives for this cause. It is our duty to reclaim Karabakh and restore our cities to their former glory. As an Azerbaijani, I am proud to participate in this process and be part of it.
- Finally, what advice do you have for students who want to build a successful career?
- To achieve a successful career, students should first decide on which profession they will choose. The choice of profession is crucial in these decisions. Every student who loves their profession will undoubtedly succeed. My advice is that students should take advantage of the opportunities available to them during their university years. They should embrace the taught subjects and try to gain experience related to their profession. They should try to improve their knowledge by using modern technologies in their experiences. They should set goals for themselves and not lose their belief until they achieve those goals.
