International Conference Dedicated to Radiation and Chemical Safety Problems Started at AzUAC


        Today, the International conference on Radiation and Chemical Safety Problems started at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC).The conference is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of one of the founders of education in the field of civil defense and life safety in Azerbaijan, doctor of technical sciences, professor, colonel Habib Ojagov.Important aspects of radiation and chemical safety, which play an important role in managing risks for human health and the environment were discussed at the conference.

        In addition to more than 40 scientific and educational institutions of our country, nearly 150 specialists representing 24 organizations from the USA, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan are participating in the conference. Nearly 170 reports covering the radiation background in buildings and residential areas, chemical pollution, chemical and radiation risks in construction materials, radon problem, transboundary chemical risks, etc. were included in the program of the conference. Therepresentatives of the University of Colorado, the Helmholtz Zentrum of Germany, the International Academy of Ecology and Life Safety of Russia and other prestigious scientific centers of the world will deliver reports at the conference.

      Rector of AzUAC, professor Gulchohra Mammadova, opened the event with an introductory speech and greeted the conference participants and guests. The rector mentioned that such kind ofinternational event on this subject was held for the first time in our country and emphasized its importance. The Rector valued the dedication of the conference to professor Habib Ojagov as a worthy contribution to the memory of the outstanding scientist, who created the foundations of teaching in the field of civil defense and life safety in Azerbaijan. In her speech, G. Mammadova took a look at the scientist's life path and talked about hiswork at AzUAC in the department.               

            After the rector's speech, the deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Novruz Guliyev, the President of the International Academy of Ecology and Life Safety of Russia Gennady Rodin, Corresponding Member of ANAS, professor, director of the Institute of Radiation Problems Ogtay Samadov, who gave congratulatory speeches, also noted that a conference isdedicated to a topic that is relevant today. 

       After the congratulatory speeches, Sakina Abdullayeva, the daughter of H.Ojagov, on behalf of her family thanked the university management for holding the conference dedicated to her father's memory and wished success to the conference participants.

       The conference continued its work with a plenary session, professor correspondent member of ANAS Islam Mustafayev and professor Muslum Gurbanovmade reports on topics of "Priority Directions of Chemical Safety", and "Legal Regulation and Methodological Aspects of Radiation Safety"accordingly.

       At the two-day conference, the scientists will exchange information and experience on the use of smart and innovative technologies in the management of radiation and chemical risks, and will discuss effective ways of cooperation on the development of joint research and education in this field.
