Turkish Experts at AzUAC: Teachers and Students Learn about Water Management Processes in Istanbul

Specialists from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI), Turkey’s leading institution in the water and wastewater sector, conducted a seminar at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC).

The seminar covered topics such as “Water and wastewater construction technologies” and “Management of drinking water in Istanbul.”

In the seminar organized for teaching staff and student from the Faculty of Water Management and Engineering Communication Systems (WM and ECS) of AzUAC were briefed on ISKI’s methods, local technologies, including Turkish water treatment plants, reservoirs, storage, and distribution systems, as well as the design of sewage systems.

Speaking at the event, Professor Akif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, highlighted the successful cooperation between AzUAC and ISKI. He emphasized that the institution’s projects for the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems are based on scientific achievements and comprehensive research, with a focus on the application of new technologies. He discussed the advantages of learning from their pioneering experiences in this field and the benefits of applying it in both teaching and production processes.

Sejaattin Varer, Head of the Water Construction Department of ISKI, presented the method of solutions of the institution he represents, drawing attention to water and wastewater issues in Istanbul in his report on “Water and Wastewater Construction Technologies”. His presentation demonstrated the application of water and wastewater construction technologies in the process.

The specialist noted that proper project planning and engineering structures are essential for the supply and purification of water, as well as for the collection, treatment, and disposal of wastewater. Additionally, the continuity and reliability of the work are also important issues.

Sejaattin Varer also shared his experiences with seminar participants regarding security issues, technical service activities, and solutions to technical problems in water and wastewater facilities.

Omer Turashlı, Director of the İkitelli Water Treatment Plant at ISKI, addressed the topic of the “Management of drinking water in Istanbul,” highlighting the global socio-economic issue of clean water scarcity. He discussed the risks of drought in Turkey due to climate change, population growth, urbanization, and industrialization, proposing optimal solutions provided by ISKI for water conservation and rational use.

Following the presentations, the Turkish guests presented symbolic gifts to Vice-Rector Akif Gasimov and the Dean of the WM and ECS Faculty, Zakir Musayev.

The seminar concluded with a discussion and exchange of ideas on the topics covered, with questions from the audience answered.
