Davit Gurgenidze, Honored Constructor of the Republic of Georgia Awarded the Title of Honorary Doctor of AzUAC

On January 25, Rector of Tbilisi State University of Georgia Jaba Samushia, Rector of the Georgian Technical University Davit Gurgenidze and Rector of Kutaisi International University Alexander Tevzadze visited Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC). As part of their visit, the rectors took part in a special meeting of the Scientific Council of AzUAC.

Rector Professor Gulchohra Mammadova welcomed the guests and spoke about the relationship between Azerbaijan and Georgia, their cooperation in various directions, including science and education, and their joint involvement in strategic regional integration initiatives. Talking about the expansion of cooperation with the world’s leading universities in various fields of science and education, the rector touched on the development of partnership relations with the region’s universities, especially the relations with the Georgian Technical University, and stated that scientists of AzUAC work closely with their Georgian colleagues within the framework of projects like “ERASMUS+ KA2”, “Reforms of Education Through International Knowledge Exchange – RETHINK”, “Horizon” and many others.

The rector emphasized that AzUAC and the Georgian Technical University had signed the cooperation agreement and beneficial cooperation relationships were established within the framework of the agreement, and said that the agreement needed to be renewed.

In his turn Davit Gurgenidze, Rector of the Georgian Technical University, spoke about the inter-university relations, the work done in the field of science and education, and expressed his confidence that scientists of both universities will reach the highest peaks of science together.

The rector of Tbilisi State University, Jaba Samushia, provided detailed information about the higher education institution he leaded and discussed its international relations as well as the projects it is involved in. Rector Jaba Samushia highlighted the potential for collaboration between AzUAC and Tbilisi State University, expressing interest in establishing these relations.

Alexander Tevzadze, the rector of Kutaisi International University, provided further information about the higher educational institution he leaded in detail and expressed interest in cooperation with AzUAC and other Azerbaijani universities.

Rectors Gulchohra Mammadova and Davit Gurgenidze signed the extended contract during the meeting. The parties conveyed their confidence that the agreement would serve as a fresh catalyst for the development and reinforcement of inter-university partnerships.

According to the agreement, cooperation relations between the two universities in the fields of education, science and culture have been renewed. The document contains important topics such as conducting joint specialist training in the directions of teaching-methodical cooperation, internship of teachers on the basis of mutual exchange, involvement of students in education and practice, involvement of teachers in the work of the state examination commission for the defense of diploma projects and master’s theses. It is planned to hold conferences and seminars, train scientific personnel, and conduct joint research works in the scientific and technical direction.

Then, in recognition of his contributions to the growth of relations between the two countries and academic institutions, Davit Gurgenidze, the rector of the Georgian Technical University and a honored constructor of the Republic of Georgia, was awarded the title of “Honorary Doctor” of AzUAC.

It should be noted that Davit Gurgenidze was elected a full member - Academician of the Georgian Energy Academy in 2006, the Georgian Engineering Academy in 2019, and the Georgian Academy of Legal Sciences in 2021. He also holds Honorary Professorships at the Technical University of Bialystok in Poland and the National Aviation University of Ukraine.
